Weight Loss & Fitness Tips from a 40+ Dad who lost over 250 lbs

Why The Geek?

Why the heck should you listen to the Karate Geek?

With this being the Internet Age and so-called ‘experts’ being a dime-a-dozen now, why on Earth should you pay attention to me and what makes me one of them?

To be totally honest, I’m about the furthest thing from a fitness or martial arts ‘expert’ there is. I’m not an internationally ranked tournament champion or competitor. I’m not a former MMA fighter. I’m not even a martial arts ‘celebrity’ face. My forms aren’t always perfect, my stances aren’t always perfect, and I, like Jon Snow, know nothing.

What I am is a guy in his 40s who used to be a lot bigger and in much worse shape than he is right now (see the pictures!!). I’m a normal dude, and a dad, who was on the fast track to an early grave. I’m a guy who wanted to get in shape so that he could be around for his kids as they grew up. Along the way I lost over 200 pounds, got rid of diabetes, and gained a couple of black belts. I love martial arts and what they’ve done for me…and I believe they can help a lot of people who were in the same boat I was.

If you’re looking for an ‘expert’ who wants to sell you something, then you’re in the wrong place. If you’re looking to read about the experiences of a fat old guy who wanted to get healthy, and who wants to help other adults who think they can’t…if you’re an adult who is interested in getting involved in martial arts but are unsure, I think you’re going to find those experiences familiar and, hopefully, helpful.

If I haven’t scared you off, then take your shoes off and come sit for a spell. I think you’ll enjoy my little corner of the web.
